Yong Sai Chung, 53, has over 28 years of oil and gas industry experience. He is currently the Head, Health & Safety PETRONAS, prior to which he held the position of Head, HSE Upstream Business of PETRONAS. He also had held various senior managerial positions in PETRONAS E&P Operations in Sudan, Turkmenistan, Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia Operations. In between, He held the position as Head of Operating Performance Improvement for PETRONAS Group of companies.
Along the journey of his career, Yong has participated and led operations readiness, start-up and operations for many onshore and offshore facilities and has led several operatorship take-over from other companies. From 2003-2006, he was entrusted as Initiative Champion in shaping and driving Operating Performance Improvement as part of PETRONAS transformation journey alongside Mckinsey & Co.
He is currently a member of the PETRONAS HSSE Leadership Team, A board member of PETRONAS Australia Pty Limited and PETRONAS Carigali (Jabung) Limited as well as Oil Spill Response Limited.
Yong graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering from University Technology of Malaysia (1989) and later obtained his Master in Business Administration from Herriot watt university, Edinburgh, UK (2000).
